Privacy Policy – NessyRecipes.com

Look, Nobody Loves Reading Privacy Policies

I get it—privacy policies are boring legal stuff. But your trust matters to me, so I want to be completely transparent about what information I collect, why I collect it, and how I protect it. I’ve tried to write this in actual English instead of legal jargon. If anything’s confusing, just email me at [email protected] and I’ll explain it better.

Information I Collect (And Why)

When you sign up for my newsletter:

  • Your email address – So I can send you new recipes, cooking tips, and kitchen stories
  • Your first name (optional) – So I can greet you personally instead of “Hey you”
  • Sign-up date – To track when you joined our community

When you comment on recipes or posts:

  • Your name – So others know who’s sharing their experience
  • Your email address – To notify you of replies and prevent spam comments
  • Your website URL (optional) – If you want to link back to your own site
  • IP address – For spam prevention only

When you visit the website:

  • Basic browsing data – Pages you visit, time spent, device type (through Google Analytics)
  • Cookie preferences – To remember your choices and improve your experience
  • Location data (general) – Only country/region level, never precise location

What I DON’T collect:

  • Credit card info (I don’t sell anything yet)
  • Precise GPS location
  • Private messages or emails you send elsewhere
  • Information about other websites you visit
  • Social security numbers or financial data

How I Use Your Information

To send you the content you signed up for:

  • Weekly recipe emails (if you subscribed)
  • Responses to your comments and questions
  • Updates when I post new seasonal content

To make the website better:

  • Understanding which recipes are most popular
  • Seeing what content you actually read vs. skip
  • Fixing broken links or confusing navigation
  • Improving mobile experience based on device usage

To keep the community safe:

  • Preventing spam comments and fake accounts
  • Blocking malicious activity
  • Ensuring real people are engaging

What I DON’T do with your information:

  • Sell it to anyone, ever (seriously, never)
  • Spam you with daily emails (I barely send weekly ones)
  • Share your email with other companies without permission
  • Use it for anything sketchy or creepy

Data Protection & Security

Here’s how I keep your information safe:

Technical measures:

  • SSL encryption on the entire website (that’s the padlock in your browser)
  • Secure, password-protected databases
  • Regular security updates and monitoring
  • Limited access (basically just me and essential service providers)

Third-party services I trust:

  • Email provider: [Your email service provider – e.g., ConvertKit, Mailchimp]
  • Analytics: Google Analytics (anonymized IP addresses)
  • Hosting: [Your hosting provider]
  • Comment management: [Your comment system]

All these services have their own strong privacy policies and security measures.

But let’s be honest:
No system is 100% secure. I do everything possible to protect your data, but I can’t guarantee absolute security. If there’s ever a data breach, I’ll notify you immediately.

Your Rights (Seriously, You’re In Control)

You can:

  • Access your data – Request a copy of everything I have about you
  • Correct your data – Update wrong information anytime
  • Delete your data – Ask me to remove your information completely
  • Unsubscribe – Stop receiving emails instantly (link at bottom of every email)
  • Object to processing – Tell me to stop using your data for specific purposes
  • Export your data – Get your information in a portable format

How to exercise these rights:
Email me at [email protected] with your request. I’ll respond within 30 days (usually much faster). You’ll need to verify your identity first—just to make sure I’m not giving your data to some random person.

GDPR Compliance (For My EU Friends)

If you’re in the European Union, you have additional protections under GDPR:

Legal basis for processing:

  • Consent – You signed up for my newsletter voluntarily
  • Legitimate interests – Analytics to improve the website
  • Legal obligations – Complying with applicable laws

Your additional GDPR rights:

  • Right to data portability
  • Right to restrict processing
  • Right to object to automated decision-making (I don’t do this anyway)
  • Right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority

Data retention:

  • Newsletter subscriber data: Until you unsubscribe
  • Comment data: As long as the post exists (unless you request deletion)
  • Analytics data: 26 months, then automatically deleted

CCPA Compliance (For My California Friends)

If you’re a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:

Your CCPA rights:

  • Know what personal information I collect
  • Know if I sell or disclose your information (I don’t sell it)
  • Opt-out of any sales (not applicable—I don’t sell data)
  • Request deletion of your information
  • Non-discrimination for exercising your rights

How to exercise CCPA rights:
Email [email protected] with “CCPA Request” in the subject line. I’ll verify your identity and respond within 45 days.
